Welcome to Historic Crediton

Welcome to Historic Crediton

A pictorial record of this historic Devon market town

The town of Crediton, once (and still) known as Kirton, has nearly 190 listed buildings, including the Grade I listed parish church, which mostly dates from the 15th century, with parts dating from the 12th and 13th centuries.

The High Street was destroyed by fire in 1743 and was followed by three other large fires later in the century.

Crediton Railway Station was opened in 1851 and was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

This site is intended to be a photographic record of as many of the listed buildings in the town as possible.

I am not a resident, or an expert, on the history of Crediton, and all the information on this site can be found using other sources.  This site was built during the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic as a project to keep me occupied.

For more detailed information can be found by contacting the Crediton Area History & Museum Society.
